Searching for a Super Fund on the Employee Record

Follow

We all know that...

  1. employers are obligated to pay 9.5% SGC (Superannuation Guarantee Contributions) on all OTE (Ordinary Time Earnings)
  2. each employee has the right to choose where they want their SGC to go
  3. SuperStream regulations require electronic payment and reporting of super (click here for more information about SuperStream Compliance)

This being the case it's important that the correct super fund data is selected on the employee record, super funds page so when it comes time for you to pay your SGC, these funds will end up exactly where they're supposed to.

In this article I'll show you how to search for a super fund on your employee's super funds page.

Since SuperStream regulations came into play, all super fund products are identified by a USI (Unique Superannuation Identifier) - before SuperStream a SPIN was used - and this USI is the most accurate and efficient way to search for / identify the correct fund and product.

(A) Go to your employee's record:

Click the "Employees" tab on the payroll dashboard, then just click on the employee's name...

(B) Click on the Super Funds page...

(C) Click on the NO FUND SUPPLIED link...

(D) Click on the Regulated tab - note you can search by fund name, fund ABN or USI here.  As mentioned earlier, the USI is by far the most efficient search tool, click on Search...

(E) When you are presented with the super fund, select it by clicking on the fund name...

(F) Enter your employee's member number, then hit Save...

...and you are done.

If your employee wants their SGC paid to an SMSF (Self Managed Super Fund) follow steps (A) -> (C) above but instead of clicking on the Regulated tab click on the Self Managed tab.  You'll be presented with a list of fields (marked with a red *) that MUST be completed...

NB. SuperStream regulations dictate that an SMSF must provide a valid, registered Electronic Service Address (ESA), for more information about this click here

We have an extensive database (ClickSuper actually administer it) that is updated from the Australian Taxation Office.  It lists all the Superannuation Fund ABNs in Australia, including SMSFs (self-managed superannuation funds).

So, the best way to ensure that all superannuation payments are forwarded to the intended fund is to use our Super Funds page search facility (as described above) because only valid, ie. SuperStream compliant, data is available for selection.

UNABLE TO FIND FUND THE FUND YOU'RE LOOKING FOR?

If you haven't been able to find the super fund you're looking for first double check the information with your employee (to rule out obvious things like typos or transposed figures) then try searching for the fund here http://superfundlookup.gov.au/  You may see a search result that looks like this...

If this happens please liaise with the super fund to ensure you are eligible to make contributions first. If the fund will allow you to make contributions send an email to both ClickSuper (support@clicksuper.com.au) and KeyPay (support@yourpayroll.com.au) so we can manually provide you with access to make contributions to this fund.

If you have any questions or feedback, please let us know via support@yourpayroll.com.au
